Lexis+ AI Arrived This Morning... So What Do You Think?

With Lexis opening up its AI solution to customers, we're eager to hear what you all think of it.

Artificial Intelligence – Chatbot conceptThe age of artificial intelligence has reached the legal profession. Well, technically it already reached the legal profession with disastrous results, the underlying technology continues to have limitations to achieving its full potential, and firms remain skeptical, but dismissing AI at this moment is like writing off the airplane because Orville could only keep it aloft for 12 seconds or so.

With clients hankering for AI-driven solutions, the race is on to match technology to use case and deliver the killer app for legal.

We’ve been teased with Lexis+ AI for months now, catching glimpses of the product doing everything up to and including writing mean letters. Today, the product is out there for U.S. users.

Lexis+ AI features conversational search, intelligent legal drafting, insightful summarization, and document upload capabilities, all supported by state-of-the-art encryption and privacy technology to keep sensitive data secure:
* Conversational search simplifies complex and time-consuming legal research by enabling users to conversationally interact with Lexis+ AI, explore new insights, and ask for adjusted and refined output.
* Document drafting instantly produces legal arguments, contract clauses, and client communications from a simple user prompt.
* Summarization functionality delivers case summaries in seconds with more content and capabilities coming soon.
* Document upload capabilities enable users to rapidly analyze, summarize, and extract key insights from legal documents.

The “coming soon” underscores a point made in a media briefing early this week: Lexis sees this offering as an evolving work-in-progress that will develop alongside advancing technology.

As previously noted, Lexis+ AI uses a conglomeration of large language models, including GPT-4 and Anthropic’s Claude 2 in an effort to optimize results for attorneys. And, of course, the product draws from the Lexis archives in order to prevent the sort of hallucinatory nightmare that might screw up a trial.

Pricing is based on what features (and data) the user wants to access.

Lexis+ AI appears to deliver fast, actionable results. But since the press weren’t in a position to play around with the tool ourselves, the question for the reader is: what do you think? At least some of you out there have firms that will purchase full access, or perhaps work at shops that enjoyed early access previously covered by NDAs. How does the product perform your real, in-the-trenches tasks? Let me know by hitting me up at joepatrice@abovethelaw.com.
