Judith Flournoy is CIO of Am Law 200 law firm Kelley Drye & Warren, who in the past year has focused heavily on the firm’s governance and records management capability. We asked her to give us a snapshot of the key milestones and challenges of 2023.
”2023 was the year of ChatGPT and all things generative AI in a sea of otherwise normal operational efforts focused on cloud-based systems such as Office 365 and Exchange Online. Additionally, firm’s like KDW have focused on Information Governance and Records disposition in a way that we have not, ever. Specifically disposition and reduction in both on- premises paper records and the handling of electronic records. Never far behind or out-of-mind is cybersecurity. The ever- present threat of malicious activities, some of which good firms fell victim to in ’23.
On generative AI it’s been the “big race” to see who can get ahead and the big companies in legal research, document management, timekeeping, all came forward with some product or service leveraging this not-so-new technology. None has hit the ball out of the park. In fact, I think for some they may be in Gartner’s trough of despair.”
