NetDocuments announces today (25 July) that it is set to release a series of generative AI-powered products, with the first release, which is already live in a handful of US and UK law firms, centred around enhancing its no-code document assembly and workflow capabilities.
Its generative AI features fall under the new brand ndMAX and the first release is PatternBuilder MAX, which is built on Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, including GPT-4, which became available in OpenAI Service in March.
NetDocuments says that PatternBuilder MAX is currently live in production in law firms including Cuatrecasas, Husch Blackwell, Lewis Silkin, and Nelson Mullins, and will be released widely this Autumn.
It enables firms to create custom generative AI automations tailored to the needs of specific practice areas and its use cases are said to include:
- Generating draft documents based on internal precedents and playbooks
- Extracting information from documents—including discrete entities, as well as complex insights—and saving extracted data to a database
- Running contract playbooks to compare third-party contracts against a firm’s own contracting policies and standard
- Instantly summarizing documents like depositions and complaints and saving those summaries into a workspace
- Speeding up document review and editing by contextually surfacing a firm’s generative AI workflows directly inside of Microsoft Word.

NetDocuments says that it listened closely to the concerns and expectations of customers during the development of ndMAX, including the need to protect client confidentiality by ensuring that client data is excluded from the LLM’s model training. Another priority was using existing security controls to manage the availability and use of AI inside the organization.
