Aderant announces it has 170 Expert Sierra clients

Aderant announced today (5 March) that the company now has 170 Expert Sierra clients. Expert Sierra is Aderant’s Amazon Web Service-hosted practice management system.

Practice management has been one of the most resistant to moving to the cloud in the legal sector, with many CIOs still not persuaded that cloud offerings reduce complexity. Firms that have selected Expert Sierra include UK top 50 law firm Penningtons Manches Cooper, announced in March 2023. That followed Aderant’s announcement in March 2020 that Expert Sierra – launched two years prior in the United States – was available in the UK and Europe. It became available in the Asia-Pacific region towards the end of 2022, and Canada in September 2023.

Also live on Expert Sierra is Scottish firm Morton Fraser MacRoberts, where in a cloud report last year, former CIO (now IT consultant) Graham Thoms told Legal IT Insider that the firm has been on Expert Sierra for three years, commenting: “It’s all been quite a journey and quite a transformation, which has been fantastic because it has allowed us to concentrate on managing the service, not the tin. We have on premises equipment for backing up data and a small number of services on premises, but anything meaningful is in the cloud.”

North American customers include Varnum LLP while in APAC, customers include Australian law firm Phi Finney.

Josiah Chaves, general manager of business of law solutions at Aderant, said: “Having 170 Expert Sierra clients, with approximately two-thirds now live or implementing, is huge because it validates our commitment to building a seamless roadmap to help law firms migrate to the cloud.

“Expert Sierra is the most innovative all-encompassing solution available to mid-size and large firms, and we look forward to providing an onboarding and implementation process that removes barriers for law firms moving to cloud-based technologies.”

Aderant announced in February that it has hired Lisa Erickson to fill the newly created role of vice president of product AI & cloud transformation.
